Jim is caught and Huck goes to "hell"

So finally Huck rids himself of the king and duke, and unexpectedly Jim is captured!
Now Huck is distraught about losing his only friend (at the moment.) It is strange that now he decides to tell Miss Watson about Jim. The fact that he almost repents and decides not to do evil any more is strange, considering his upbringing and Pap, but after he rips up the note to Miss Watson and says that he will go to hell is sort of scary. It shows that he doesn't care about Faith.
It is funny how the king and duke are going to try the whole "Show" thing on this unexpecting town. I hope that this will be there last performance.
So now all Huck has to do is to somehow get Jim back, and get rid of those humbugs!!!!!!

Another of Huck's plans, and the mumps

So Huck devised a plan with Mary Jane to capture the 'king' and the 'duke.' It was very smart of him. I can't wait until the men who saw the king do the "play" arrive there. They truly will, "tar and feather them and throw them into the river!"
Huck though is terrible at remembering last names. Now Susan and the hare-lip think Mary Jane is visiting four different families, and they think that Mary Jane might get the Mumps along with the measles, whooping-cough, erysiplas, consumption, yaller janders, and brain fever. "My land! And they call it the mumps?"
The king and duke think now that they have everything covered, at least until the people find out about who they really are.

Social Context of Huck Finn

1. Slavery. Back then people thought it was okay to own slaves. By this you can tell that they probably just didn't feel like doing the work. When you think about it they didn't even need slaves.
2. Life on the river - class - passage on river. The most used boat was probably the good old raft. The boats that people traveled on showed there class also. For instance, the rich and wealthy probably rode on ferry's and big boats. Where as slaves and the lower classes traveled on either rafts or canoes.
3. Class systems - eduaction - physical labor - $. The main classes were the rich and powerful, the people who where fairly wealthy, peasants or the poor, and slaves. Slaves were not allowed to be educated. Until they were free, maybe there were a couple who had been educated before. Also the slaves were doing most of the physical work. The white's did some but less then the black's did. They were treated terrible, they were whipped if they made a mistake, most of the time. Money seperated the classes big time. Servants and slaves are different in this matter, servant's were paid, but slaves, no way. Slaves didn't have any, except for every now and then. The rich people however could by anything they wanted.

The two biggest liars in the world

So now Huck and Jim meet the King of France and the Duke of "Bilgewater," amazing! NOT!!!!! These men are most likely just humbugs who are robbers.
They can make anyone believe them. Mary Jane and her sister certainly do. I think they have nothing to do with this family. They just want money. I'm glad Huck spoiled there plans by hiding the money in the coffin, but is he going to explain this to Mary Jane? He probably is clueless about what to say.
Wonder what Jim has been doing all this time?
