So just when things seem to going as planned about Jim's escape Tom suddenly decides that the job is to easy so he makes a different plan instead of digging Jim out. Tom said that they would need a saw. Huck was confused until Tom said that they would have to saw a leg of the bed off in order to get Jim's chain free. Or, he said they could saw JIM'S leg off. Huck disagreed immediately.
After a long time of discussing the way to get Jim free they decided to stick to digging, with case knifes! Crazy stuff! Tom told Huck about a man who was prisoner in a dungeon in England. He dug himself out, and when he came out he was in China! According to Tom, it took the man thirty-seven years to make it out!

Slave cemetary walk
So last Wednesday we went on a walk at Coddle Creek church and went to the slave graveyard. Pretty spooky stuff! It was interesting because there were little humps in the earth. Which is actually were the slave are buried! I feel bad for those slaves. We had to walk on there heads!
Pastor Hunt was explaining slavery to us and how it started. One of the first times there were slaves, and perhaps the worst, was in Egypt when the Israelites were enslaved. They were treated badly.
Then MUCH later slaves were brought to America. Now, slaves were allowed to go to church, but sometimes they were forced to go.
In the graveyard for the slaves there are no individual gravestones. There was one big gravestone and that showed where the graveyard was, but that was it. It was back in the woods where it was hardly noticeable.

Huck is Tom Sawyer and almost becomes dog food
So Huck sets out to find Jim at Mr. Phelps farm. His farm sounds like a pretty nice farm from Huck's description. When the dogs almost attack him he must have been scared, but was smart enough not to move. Thankfully the nigger woman comes to his rescue.
It's funny when Mrs. Phelps says to her children, "Look, its cousin Tom!" Huck must have been thinking, "who in the world is Tom?" and "I have no idea who these people are, yet they think they know me!" Huck is very smart when he thinks that maybe later he'll pull the children aside and ask who he is.
I just can't wait until the REAL Tom Sawyer shows up, and who knows what Mr. and Mrs. Phelps will do!
